Soft Petals

Give Me My Flowers is a series and body of work I created in 2020, which initially started as a way to honor black men through their masculine and feminine energies. Since the development of the project I have intuitively shifted my energy into focusing on women, and exploring the mother wound, titled "Soft Petals".

Soft Petals is an ode to black women reclaiming our power, our joy, our strength and our softness, our resilience, and our rest! When I think of this work I think of how transcendent we are as women, how the world views us, and how we choose to show up.

As a Black woman creative and absolute badass from Philly, Jill Scott has always prevailed in her creativity as a strong black and SOFT woman of fortitude. Through Soft Petals, of "Give me my flowers", I honor not only myself through healing and storytelling, but allowing and creating space for other black women to share, heal, and bring forth their creativity. This series is a two-part portrait series that will highlight 5-7 black women within the tri-state area, who share the desire to heal the mother wound (either with their mother or daughters/children) through photography and set design/styling and Film to dig deeper into their personal stories.

Through the process of documentation we will uncover their pain points, mother wound traumas, and create a space of acknowledgment and acceptance /forgiveness for healing via conversations and dance.

Like Jill Scott, this is our Womanifesto, our declaration of healing, and the reclaiming of our softness.
